Morgan, John
(10 jun. 1735, Filadelfia, Pa., EE.UU.–15 oct. 1789, Filadelfia).

Educador médico estadounidense. Estudió medicina en Europa antes de volver a las colonias inglesas de entonces, para fundar en 1765 la primera escuela de medicina, en la Universidad de Pensilvania. Como primer profesor de medicina en Norteamérica, exigió una educación liberal de sus alumnos y separó medicina, cirugía y farmacología en disciplinas distintas, política a la que se oponían ampliamente los médicos de la época. Fue designado jefe del sistema médico del ejército en 1775; sin embargo, el Congreso continental no le dejó organizar el sistema y lo despidió en 1777, haciéndolo responsable de la alta tasa de mortalidad durante la guerra. Aunque fue absuelto en 1779, nunca se recuperó y murió recluido en la pobreza.
